BSS (Hons) in Social Work

The objective of the BSS (Hons) in Social Work program is to provide the students a comprehensive idea of man and his social interaction and to equip them with considerable knowledge, technical skills, and values and attitudes appropriate for Social Work practice. The curriculum covers a field practicum where the students are sent to various social welfare agencies with an objective to apply theoretical knowledge and to attain skills necessary for professional practice. It is expected that the students will be professionally skilled to deal with social problems, improve social services, enhance social functioning, link client systems with resources systems, and promote social justice. Besides the major area of concentration, some interdisciplinary courses are offered to enable the students to face the multidimensional issues of the practical life.

 

Entry Requirements

The entry requirement for the BSS (Hons) in Social Work program is a Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) of any other equivalent level of education.

Admission

Admission in to BSS (Hons) in Social Work program is on a competitive basis. Candidates are selected for admission on the basis of past academic records, a written test and a viva examination.

Graduation Requirements

A student will have to complete 123 credit hours of which 93 credit hours consist of core courses and the remaining 30 credit hours are from a general interdisciplinary body of knowledge. A student must obtain least a ‘C’ grade to pass any individual course.
