The Department of Education and Training (DoET) represents many disciplines, many methods, and many perspectives. By bringing together a diverse group that is able to consider issues through different perspectives, DoET is able to create new and innovative solutions to today's pressing educational problems.
DoET faculty members are conducting groundbreaking research in vital teaching and policy areas. This research is not done in a vacuum. New strategies and methods are tested and refined in educational institutions throughout the nation. Education Department faculty members also reach out to others across the globe to seek multi-disciplinary solutions to today's educational problems.
DoET has long understood the central role of education for producing caring communities, vibrant economies, and contributing citizens. The department is striving for education enterprise. Our mission is to prepare efficient and skilled educators, educationists, better parents and future leaders in education and to generate new knowledge in the service of improving student opportunity, achievement and success.
The B. Ed. is a year-long intensive program for students who wish to explore the world of joyful teaching and entertaining learning, who prefer taking bold and innovative steps to develop teaching to change the world. Education becomes meaningful only when it can change the world as necessary.
The M. Ed. is a year-long intensive program for students who wish to study a particular field in education, acquire a general theoretical background for understanding past and future field experiences, or develop skills for use in professional work in education.
The challenges facing education are complex, extending beyond our schools to families, communities, and our nation. Our comparative advantage is rooted in the belief that working at the nexus of practice, policy and research is the most powerful way to improve education. Whether preparing students, working with education leaders through professional education efforts or conducting research, we operate at this intersection. DoET organizes many workshops, seminars, symposiums, co-curricular activities and action research in order to develop quality teachers with creative leadership and emotional intelligence. Members of our faculty include research-grounded practitioners and practice-focused researchers. They prepare our students, the lifeblood of our community, who create a vibrant and vital campus atmosphere unrivaled by other department of education. Once our students graduate, they make a difference in the world in myriad ways.
